Taking Care of Your Pet Portrait

When you receive your portrait please read this information on how to take care of your portrait.

After receiving your portrait please check you are happy with it.  The portrait will be a reflection of the final agreed digital proof.  However, please bear in mind that this is an artistic impression of your pet(s) not a photo, which means that colours are influenced by the quality of the digital photographic reference, the pencil colours available and paper used and will be similar to, but not necessarily, the exact colours of your pet in real life.  If you are unhappy with the final portrait please contact me to discuss within 7 days of receipt.

  • From the minute you received your portrait, its ownership and care transfers to you and Pawtraits by Gloria is not responsible for any damage that may occur.

  • Your portrait will have been carefully packaged for transit.

  • The portrait will arrive mounted. This means there is a sheet of mountboard at the back and a border around the front.

  • Your portrait will be wrapped in glassine paper.  Carefully remove this to see your portrait. Keep the glassine paper to re-cover and protect your portrait until it can be framed.

  • Be gentle with your portrait, touching the surface could cause  smudging and the oils in our skin can leave marks on the paper.  Store flat, face up, in a dry place, out of direct sunlight.  The coloured pencils used are lightfast but can still suffer some degradation if subjected to extreme heat from continuous direct Sunlight.  Dampness may warp the paper and even allow mould to grow on artwork. So avoid hanging art in potentially humid environments. Bedrooms, sitting rooms and hallways are often the best places for fine artworks.

  • It is best to arrange to frame your portrait as soon as possible as this to provide the best protection.  Use of professional framing service is ideal, but you can choose to frame the portrait yourself.

Tips on framing your portrait

  • You can change the colour of the mount provided to suit your desired colour scheme. A mount shoiuld always be used as it protects the surface of the portrait from touching the glass of a frame. The replacement mount, and any backing should be acid free archival quaity to prevent staining of the art paper.

  • Never use, or allow a professional framer to use, a fixative spay on the surface of the portrait as this can significantly change the colours. The pencils used do not require any form of fixative.

  • Seal the back of the frame with tape to prevent any dust from being able to enter the frame.

Once you have framed your Portrait hang and enjoy for many years to come.
