Portrait Ordering process.

Whether commissioning a custom portrait is a new experience, or something you have done before, you will understandably have questions and expectations concerning what is involved. This page will hopefully provide the answers to most of your queries.  If you cannot find the answers here please contact me and I will be happy to help.

Achieving a likeness of your Pet/s.

All pet portraits are drawn to artistically resemble a digital image (reference photo) that you provide and we both agree is suitable and best reflects your pets character.   I don't need to meet your pet it helps to have multiple photos and even video clips to know them a little better.

It begins with suitable Pet Photos

The choice of the reference photo for the portrait is the most important part of the process.  Getting a suitable photo for me to work from is key to capturing a likeness of your pet.

  • Please see my photo guide page to help you choose the best digital reference for the portrait.

  • As the quality of the chosen photo is so important to meeting your portrait expectations, I prefer to view photos prior to you placing an order - to ensure we agree the best reference photo to work with.

  • If you are happy with the portrait prices and feel ready to proceed with a commission that is the stage to contact me with your high resolution photos.

  • I prefer to work from digital images but may consider having a print where necessary.

  • Any photo not taken by you, will require permission for use from the photo owner,  because legally they retain the copyright to any photos they’ve taken.

  • Try to avoid using Social media photos as these are unfortunately become reduced resolution when uploaded.

How much does it cost?

This is often the first thought when considering commissioning a custom portrait of your beloved pet.

  • The price of your drawing will vary according to the size you choose, the type of medium used, and the number of pets to be drawn.

  • To view the options, and associated prices, please go to my prices page.

  • A 50% deposit secures your booking, the balance payable on completion, plus shipping costs.

How long will it take to complete?

There are two factors involved in the lead time for a portrait.

  • First the acutal time it takes to complete the portrait, typically 3-4 weeks.

  • Second, the waiting list time in my drawing schedule, i.e. how many pre booked portraits I currently need to complete before yours can be started.

  • My waiting list varies throughout the year, therefore I encourage you to contact me and I will be more than happy to discuss potential lead times prior to placing an order.

  • If you have a specific deadline for a specific upcoming event contact me and I will endeavour to see what I can do to achieve this.

Postage/Shipping costs.

  • For the UK mainland, postage is charged at a flat rate of £12.

  • For all other destinations, please contact me with your address for an accurate shipping quote.

  • If you are local to me in Basingstoke, Hampshire UK you are welcome to avoid additional shipment costs by arranging to collect the portrait in person.

Portraits with Multiple pets

  • I can produce a portrait with more than one pet.  Please see my prices page to view the sizes available for a portrait featuring two pets.

  • For a portrait with two or more pets contact me for a separate quotation as this will have additional costs.

  • It may be possible to produce a combined portrait from separate photos of several pets but this is dependent on the size, quality and angles of the photos.

Artwork Background

  • Standard list prices, are for a head and shoulder portrait with a plain background only.

  • There will be a number of colour options for backgrounds and I can discuss these once your booking is received.

  • Detailed backgrounds, full body portraits or more than two pets are charged extra.

How do I place an order?

  • Once we have agreed a suitable photo to use as the reference for your pet portrait you should make an order request online through my booking page

  • On receipt of your order request I will send you and invoice with payment details, which can made via Bank Transfer.

  • A 50% deposit secures your booking, with the rest payable on completion. When your booking has been received I will provide an approximate lead time for completion.

Approving the Portrait

  • You will be emailed images of developmental stages and are encouraged to comment to ensure you are happy with each stage of the portrait progress.  Prompt responses ensure the lead time can be met,

  • Once the portrait is complete you are sent a final digital image proof to approve prior to making the final payment. Once the final payment has cleared, your artwork will be shipped out to you.

Is the portrait framed?

  • No. All portraits are supplied unframed with a suitable white mount.

  • Frames are a very individual choice and I cannot guarantee the safety of a framed portrait in the post due to the risk of glass breakage.  Check out my care of your portrait page for some simple guidance on framing.

Can I share/print images of my portrait?

  • No. I retain the copyright to all my drawings.

  • If you would like a print of your portrait, perhaps as a gift to a family member or close friend, please contact me to arrange this.  Prints will be subject to an additional charge.

Will images of my Portrait be used online?

  • Yes. Sharing my work is how I grow my business, spread the love and attract new clients.

  • If the portrait is a surprise gift for someone, I’m more than happy to delay sharing any photos until you’ve gifted it, in order to maintain the element of surprise. Please let me konw the point of booking.

Do you only draw Cat and Dogs?

  • No I am happy to draw pet animals of any shape and size!
